Union appeals

ITANAGAR, June 12: All Arunachal Pradesh Forest Workers’ Union (AAPFWU) has appealed to the  state Forest Minister to take steps for appointment of contingency and casual workers of  forest department on seniority basis.

The former Chief Minister late Dorjee Khandu had directed the forest department   to prepare the list  for the year 2009 and appoint the casual workers  as per seniority, the union claimed while  resenting that  the forest department did not take any step in this regard.

 

ACCAWA reshuffled

ITANAGAR, June 12:  The All Capital Complex Autorickshaw Welfare Association (ACCAWA) in its meeting held at Naharlagun yesterday reshuffled its executive body and  appointed action chairman Tame Negi and Assistant general secretary Milli Jaju as new acting president and acting general secretary  respectively of the Association for  the remaining tenure of six month till election/selection of the new executives.  

The Association is working under All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF).

Meanwhile,  AAPPTF has appointed Anita Miji and Sunita Gurung as president and general secretary of the women wing of West Kameng district unit of the Federation.

 

Yogya for Ramdev

ITANAGAR, June 12: Patanjali Yoga Samiti/ Bharat Swabhiman Trust Arunachal Pradesh performed Maha Mirtunjoy Jab and Gyatri Mantra and Budhi-Sudhi Yagya on June 11 and 12 respectively for the speedy recovery of Ramdev’s health.

The Puja will be continue till Ramdev regain his normal health.

 

Religious rituals

ITANAGAR: The Memba community of Menchukha will organize the 49 days religious rituals of Late Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu which is scheduled on June 17 next.

More than 50 Lamas will perform the day long rituals under the guidance of Rev. Rinpoche Thinley Norbu  at Gonpa Choiling. People from all walks of life including panchayat leaders, NGO group, MLA and ex-minister and villagers are expected to participate in the religious prayer. Prayers will also be held for eternal peace of late Yeshi Chodak, late Yeshi Lhamu,  late J S Babbar and late T S Manik   who died along with Khandu in the chopper mishap on April 30.

 

Forum demands security to RTI activist

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal RTI Activist Forum (ARTIAF) appealed to the state government to provide security to RTI activist and Sango Lomte Foundation Chairman Payi Gyadi

Pointing out the June 5 incident in which a pistol and suspected hand grenade were found from the car of Gyadi, the ARTAIF said that it was a plan chalked out  by some miscreants to implicate the RTI activist in false and fabricated case.

Payi Gyadi has been fighting against corruption and exposed misdeeds of many people including those in power, the Forum said  and appealed the  Govt to provide police protection to him so that he shall continue his fight against corruption.

Groom them well

Dear Editor,

Of late there are reports claiming cent per cent results in AISSE. Isn’t the introduction of grading system meant to avoid failure in the first place? It would be interesting to know whether the reputed institutes award grade against co-scholastic areas with justification. Scenario in a government establishment would be pathetic where the teachers barely know any student by name. The revamped system seems to be a good effort on the part of the board. In addition to the academic performance the students need to be judged on other value system.

I wonder whether there is any class or period assigned for these aspects. These co-curricular tests are as important as academic performance. If they are groomed well from the beginning we could hope for a better citizen with broader vision. Unlike us who can never see beyond our petty divisive affiliations.

Another ritual which needs serious rethinking is the tradition of awarding toppers among different communities. These young minds that might have been thought not to discriminate, at least in essays, anyone on any ground must be surprised to see the stark contradictions. If they are really concern they should sponsor the educational cost of meritorious students from the economically vulnerable section instead of practicing mere tokenism.

In the current dispensation perhaps only the ward of well-off who can pay through their nose for their children’s education might be the contender of this coveted recognition. A student from a poor family background studying in a remote government school might not heard about these largesse. Seems the government is also happy to keep the majority of us in dark. God also seems to have forsaken us!

No matter whatever action the government is taking to curb the propaganda of anticorruption movement the saffron saint and the Gandhi man is creating havoc and headache for corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. Somebody had genuinely said that the corruption is a menace that tear up a civil society. It has entered into every section and every field. It has engulfed the whole nation.

Time has come to gear up against this deadly virus and fate has favoured us with these two veteran activists. So lets us all come and join this noble cause.

Make way for locals

Dear Editor,

In reference to the recent news of Mizoram merchant Association barring the local people to lend their trading license to non locals, it is requested to Chamber of commerce and business community of Arunachal to take action on the same line of Mizoram. There are many non locals trader doing their business using license of local which is not a good trend for the local entrepreneurs. The large numbers of non-tribal in the capital or state not only threatens the existence of locals but also directly challenges the business avenue of unemployed youth. Therefore it is the need of the hour that the locals should open their eyes and discourages the non local traders for the interest of Arunachalees. Therefore I urge the concerned authority to check the rampant migration of non locals for business purposes in the state.

The innocent yoga followers must not be doomed

Dear Editor,

As Baba Ramdev does, so do we all agree, that, corruption in any form has to end even if a little at a time.

We are fortunate enough to be living in a vibrant society that has the tenacity to keep delivering people of great action like Anna Hazare and Baba Ramdev even in this modern times. People who can garner mass support to stand against the goliath corruption.

The more recent protest of the Yoga guru Baba Ramdev against the black money stashed in Swiss bank is full of supports, but, for one,if it is indeed true, I, as a common person, would like to question as to why in the name of a yoga shivir, the guru conducted a protest at the Ramlila ground that later-on resulted in the condemnable way of eviction by the Delhi govt.

For a man of integrity like Baba Ramdev, why did he allow his conscious mind to get corrupted in the first place by planning a make-believe yoga shivir and instead executed a protest and in doing so, he also mislead the Delhi govt. Why did he use a human shield comprising of women, fragile and old, instead of facing the consequences boldly for a good cause.

As far as my knowledge goes, the two things, yoga and protest can never come together in any form or place. They are placed the farthest apart. Yoga, as I have been taught in my school days, is an art of systematic physical activity done in a controlled and composed mind. But, protest is a random reflexive action of our body controlled by an agitated mind.

I hope, Baba Ramdev will not fall to the steps of the fabled man, the Pied Piper of Hamelin, that, for his crusade against corruption and now for his differences with the govt, the innocent yoga followers must not be doomed.

I believe that, in order to bring transparency in the system, the mind and soul that leads must also be transparent.

The convincing thug

Dear Editor,

I would like to share the following important piece of information with the readers of your esteemed daily.

On my journey from Tezu on June 2, a black Scorpio coming from opposite direction suddenly stopped near my car just 6-7 kms away from Parashuram Kund. A man with 5.7 ft height (Approx), round face and darkish complexion, sporting light moustache and beard, came out from the car. He spoke in  Faujiwala Hindi and introduced himself as R Mallick, a resident of Tezpur and an employee of  CSD.  He narrated such a story that I was carried away by his emotion and realized that he needs some money. But, he had such a good morality that he didn’t want help as alms, so he gave me a Nokia N8 mobile and asked for Rs 6000 just to get rid of his problems.  I did so happily as I did two great job --- one, I helped a needy person and two, I got a Nokia N8 for just Rs 6000.  But the story did not end there.

I rang up one of my friend at Tezu to describe that incident happily.

But alas, I came to know that I was cheated by a mobile thug. There are some 8-9 more people, mostly officers from Anjaw  district who were cheated by the gang of same thug.

I came to know later that he and  his gang use different cars to disguise their identity. He is so expert in convincing people that you will even pay extra money by seeing his artificial  facial expression.

He is roaming in Tezu and Anjaw district for last many months to sell Chinese made mobiles  which look like the original Nokia N –series.

You may be next target of such cheater. Best of luck.

DC for relocation of flood & landslide prone Gosang

ITANAGAR, June 12: Deputy Commissioner, Upper Siang Liyon Borang alongwith officers and public leaders visited land slide affected Gosang village of Jengging Circle today to take stock of the situation in view of the ensuing monsoon.

It may be mentioned that the village was affected by landslide during last monsoon necessitating families to shift to adjoining Pubuk and Dangkir areas.

While interacting with the people, the Deputy Commissioner advised the people and the Kebang to find out a suitable and stable site for shifting of the village as the present location is very prone to landslide and erosion. He assured the people for proper rehabilitation if alternative suitable site is found. He also assured the people to take up land protection measure with concerned department as requested by the people.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner and the team also visited Pubuk settlement where some of the effected families have shifted. The people requested the Deputy Commissioner for basic amenities in view of the settlement being new who assured the people to look into their grievances and advised them to get their village recognised in the meantime.

While returning back to Yingkiong, the Deputy Commissioner also visited Dangkir area to explore suitability of rehabilitating effected families there. (DIPRO)

 

Kaso urged to give priority on capital development

ITANAGAR, June 12:  The senior workers and supporter of local MLA Techi Kaso  organized a interaction meeting with Kaso  here yesterday.

While reviewing various developmental activities being taken up in the twin capital city, the house apprised the local MLA about the various difficulties and problems being faced by the town, colony, and sector dwellers in particular and constituency as a whole.

 The members present in the meeting urged the MLA to give  priority on development activities like construction/renovation of drainage system, road, footpath, electricity and water supply and improved law and order situation.

Emphasizing on the need of proper implementation of any developmental works, the house also urged all the executing agencies and Govt officials to maintain cordial relation with general publics for the better development in the  state capital.

In the meeting, speakers appreciated local MLA for fulfilling some of the election commitment on priority basis such as improvement of sectoral road, footpath, electricity and water supply and taking up various ambitious projects with the Govt  including construction of seven fly over bridge to mitigate the traffic problems, Green airfield,  projects under JnNURM,  highway projects in Capital,  Inter-State Bus Terminus.

MLA Kaso promised to keep up his good work for better development of the state capital and its citizen. He advised the workers to maintain brotherhood and cordial relations among all the communities, tribes for peace and tranquility and to evolve all round development.

The meeting was attended among others  by Taba Tara, General Secretary NCP, Techi Nera Vice-President NCP, Nguri Rajen,   Tok Bottum, Tajo Shillong , Tamchi Kame, Bamang Loram, Charu Hari and Rumik Taha.

 

APUWJ express shock while AAPSU condemn killing of Mid-Day scribe

ITANAGAR, June 12: Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalist (APUWJ) has expressed shock over the killing of prominent journalist Jyoti Dey at Mumbai yesterday by unidentified persons.  Late Dey who was working with English daily Mid-Day newspaper was one of few journalists who had deep access to Mumbai underworld and had extensively written about underworld in his 15 years of journalism career. APUWJ while condoling his killing, sympathize with family members of late Dey.

“Killing of J Dey once again highlights how lives of journalists are at risk in this country. Even in Arunachal Pradesh, media persons had always been targeted for tirelessly working to expose wrongdoings of powerful persons. It is time civil society and ordinary citizen come out in support of media fraternities,” Union stated in a release. Further it added, “We also urge state government to review all the cases of attack on media persons. Though many FIRs had been lodged but nothing had happen in most cases. Such callous attitude of police and  administration are the reason why hooligans are emboldened to act against journalists, the Union added.

Meanwhile All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union(AAPSU) has also condemn killing of J Dey. In a release AAPSU President Takam Tatung has termed his death as great loss to state of Arunachal. “During his visit to Arunachal, he had meet us and tried to get first hand information about various problems. He had extensively written about issues like Chinese claim over Arunachal, insurgency problems and poor infrastructure. He had also desired to work on Chakma-Hajong refugee and were again planning to visit Arunachal for the purpose,” said Takam Tatung. Further he added, “He was one journalist who honestly cared for this state and tried to present true facts unlike those journalists who never visit and write everything making assumption. In his death, Arunachal has lost a very important media friend from national daily and AAPSU prays for eternal peace of departed soul.”

Dey's last rites were performed at suburban Ghatkopar in Mumbai. Print and electronic media personnel were present in large numbers.

 

Varies on APLS platter

ITANAGAR, June 12: The monthly meeting of the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) was held today at J N Museum, Itanagar under the chairmanship of Y D Thongchi, Sahitya Akedemi winner and noted Assamese writer.

The gathering congratulated Jamuna Bini, the noted Hindi Poet and Assistant Professor (Hindi), Rajiv Gandhi University for being awarded with ‘Rashtra Bhasha Gaurav’ by Akhil Bharatiya Hindi Sahitya Sevi Sansthan, Allahabad, UP for her contribution to the Hindi literature.

Y D Thonchi read out his short story titled ‘Asol Bhoot’ in Assamese on the topic of atrocities meted out to the domestic helps.

Ajanta, another noted Assamese writer read out her story ‘I Love You Mem’ in Assamese on the disturbed childhood on lack of love.  Shilpi Shikha Dutta, English Lecturer, displayed her sketches on Conservation of wildlife, religion, life etc while Deputy Director, Research Batem Pertin talked on the importance and preservation of oral tradition of the state.

Writer Pekba Ringu was also present in the meeting.

The meeting is held on the second Sunday of every month to encourage new writers and poets and to create an environment of Literature amongst the Arunachalees.

 

Australian website omits Kashmir, Arunachal as part of India

Melbourne/New Delhi, June 12: A map of India on an Australian government website has omitted the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh triggering strong protests from the Indian community in the country. Following the protests, Australia admitted that the map was an "error" and said it will be removed from the website.

"The map was an error and is being removed from the website." an Australian High Commission spokesperson in New Delhi said on Sunday.

The Indian community in Australia had lodged strong protests with the Australian government over the incorrect map of India, posted on a government website in Australia which omitted the border states of Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh. The website of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) of Australia had the "incorrect" map in its website.

The Council of Indian Australians Inc (CIA), an apex body representing the Indian Australian community in New South Wales, had asked the DIAC to correct the map on its website.

"The CIA Inc wishes to bring this (incorrect map) to the attention of the Government of Australia and urges the DIAC to rectify this incorrect map and display the revised map showing correct boundaries," a CIA statement said.

 

Awareness prog for SHGs and Farmers

ITANAGAR, June 12: The Alombro Mayu Yaku Chi Amey Aroga (AMYAA) a Namphai-I based NGO of Miao organized Self Help Group (SHG) and Farmers’ Club Awareness Programme at New Longkey and Samkhedung Villages under Khagam CD Block of Miao, today.

A total of 17 participants took active part in the awareness programme organized at New Longkey Village and 12 farmers resolved themselves to form farmer club at Samkhedung Village.

The other community leaders present in the programme were village Gaon Burahs and Church Leaders. Jangam Pansa and Alisha Mossang of AMYAA gave solid input sessions on SHG and Famer Club by explaining the concept and significance of SHG and Farmer Club for the village community who are still lacking development almost in all spheres of livelihood, education, medical facilities and above all in knowing their basic fundamental rights as citizens of the Country. In the interactive sessions that were held in both the villages, participants raised their queries related to the changes of development and benefit that SHG and Farmer Club can bring about in their village.

The AMYAA Staff responded with satisfactory explanations to all the queries raised by the participants. The staff further shared that forming of SHG and Farmer Club is not merely for financial benefit but for empowerment, development of personality and skills, a learning platform through group functioning and a challenge to work for genuine development of their families, village and society.

The AMYAA (NGO) through her bottom-top approach has been wining the credibility of the grassroots community members through various NABARD sponsored short term training programmes such as Skill Development Programme (SDP) in wood carving, Rural Entrepreneurship Development Programme (REDP) in Food Processing, Mushrooming.  The impacts of these programmes have become a motivating factor for poverty stricken villages to go for formation of SHG and Farmer Club. The AMYAA (NGO) with minimum resource at hand and with the only and timely support of NABARD RO, Itanagar has a vision-mission commitment to redefine the lives of the poor in the target areas in all possible means and ways.

 

44th Dree Football Tourney

Diibo, SLSC enter quarters

ZIRO, Jun 12: Two times champions Diibo Sports Club (DSC) beat Youngest Club Hari (YCH) 2-0 in their last league match and entered the quarterfinals of the 44th Dree Football Tournament at Subansiri Stadium Hapoli today.

Michi Yapa and Koj Tangung scored a goal each in 58th and 60th minutes.

Leegang Bunghu of DSC was declared the ‘man of the match’.

In the second match of the day,  defending champions Sojang Lapang Sports Club (SLSC) trounced Dolo Mando Football Club (DMFC) by 6-0 goals to became second team to enter quarter- finals of the tournament.

Mihin Taker scored 4 goals while Mihin Pullo and Millo Jelley scored a goal each to book their quarterfinals berth.

Millo Jelley was adjudged the ‘man of the match’.

Laji Bogia Sports Club will meet Puchi Putii Club (PPC) in tomorrow’s first match while the second match will be played between Zamra Club and Kings-XI.
